Every boy has the dream of when he will be considered a "man" by his peers. Manhood is more than just a title. When a boy is considered a man it means he is ready to lead and protect those around him. It means he is ready to make life altering decisions on his own. In essence, it means he has achieved maturity.
Tonight my Dad, my brother Weston, and I went to show the Jesus Film in a town called Ningo. While we were setting up, watching the film, and taking down, I noticed something that grieved and infuiated me. Almost all of the men around us were watching a football match or sitting around playing a worthless game. The women and children were working or watching the film. Where was the male leadership in this town? Is this a problem unique to the town of Ningo?
Earlier today, I listened to a sermon. In the sermon the pastor talked about a mission board that sent college graduates on a two year mission trip called Journeyman. One of the toughest places, physically and spiritually, that a Journeyman could go to was West Africa. So far 50 journeyman have been to West Africa. Guess how many of those were girls? 48. Not even ten percent of the Journeymen that have been to West Africa have been men! I have seen this same thing being on the mission field. An overwhelming majority of volunteers are female. I would say of the volunteers that I have seen cycle through Ghana, over 75% of them have been female. Where are you men?
This is why I started this blog. Men today are being trained to be wimps, followers, and sinners. This is not what God called us to do. God has placed desires in every man. A desire to win a woman's heart, a desire to be a hero, and a desire to be a strong, but good leader. And instead of living out these desires and fulfilling the plan that God has in store for us, men are pretending to fulfill these desires through pornography and video games. 20, 30, and even 40 year old "men" are still living childishly. Can't you see the folly in this? Don't you know that God's plan is so much bigger?
This is really just an introduction to other blog posts. I want to rip apart God's word as I figure out what it means to be a man, and I want to share this with you. For now men, examine your lives. Revise the areas where you know you are not living as a man and align them with God's plan. Look for the more subtle areas where you are "wimping out" or being passive. Be challenged to be a man.
